Because of this, Windows installers should always register the exact version number for the package.
Yes, all 10.x will skip the minor version in $installdir name and the registry keys so that they are all installed in the same installation location and are considered as updates. Only major versions are installed side-by-side. That is how installbuilder behaves.
Can you please elaborate the issue?

It's 10, not 10.5, which leads to automated provisioning tools (Salt, Puppet, etc.) not doing an update from lets say 10.4 to 10.5, because both report version 10. Such tools rely on exact version information. Bye...
