This needs to be documented somewhere besides archives... Do we want a
simple wiki or something that can help us log *where* our respective
ownerships and licenses are coming from?

Shouldn't we just stick the file in a directory on the cvs server, along
with the rest of the site?

At the very least add a note to the site README.

I'll do it now...

Ah, indeed.

So we're down to two options:
1) Find a similar font. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frutiger has some
info, seems there is no completely free alternative, but using a Mac or
Windows font should perhaps be possible?

2) Buy a copy or two of the font and stick it somewhere where we can
build the images. The downside is we have a piece required to build the
website that's not easily available, but we'd still just use it to
generate static images for the site..

Thoughts on these options?

Well, in my earlier life I worked with designers quite a lot, and
frankly there's no such thing as a good, free font. There was in fact
a project to design OSS fonts but given the tedious work involved got
nowhere.

So -- depending on cost and budget -- I'd be up for buying a license.

One of my customers is www.houseind.com (well known in the font
business). I may be able to get them to donate some licenses should
their be specific fonts we want.

According to the Wikipedia article on Frutiger, there is a related,
similar font called Myriad. It seems Myriad is now being used by Apple.

I have Myriad on my Mac, although am not sure if it came with the
system, or the Dreamweaver that I installed later.

It's a mistake to assume that just because fonts are present on the Mac or a
Windows PC they are legally free to use. You need to know exactly where the
font came from and what license it's under.
