After "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/progres" then "make" it is saying I need gmake so I go to "ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/GNU/make" but there was gmake file on that site so I download "make-3.77.tar.gz" but it didn't create gmake just make, where can I get gmake?

Why not just use the port (in the ports collection)? It will download, compile and install all dependancies for you. Sometimes the version takes a week or two to sync with a recent release.
