I have Windows XP Pro and I used the Computer Management program
(located in the Administrative Tools bunch of utilities) for deleting
the PostgreSQL account. It was easy to delete the account.

The PostgreSQL service was uninstalled and deleted automatically during
the unistallation. I have also checked it manually and I am 100% sure
that there is no such service left running.

I do not have any firewall or antivirus software running. I even have
the windows firewall disabled.

The only last thing that I can think of checking (in order to solve this
problem), is seeing if there are any specific Win XP Pro services that
need to be running during installation. If this is the problem, then I
can enable them and succeed with the install.

So I am asking again, if any of you friends, know about any services
that are required by the installer in order for it to operate correctly.

Help !!!!!!!!!!!! I can not take it any more. I am feeling like braking
the PC.

This is the first time in 10 years of fiddling with software, that I
come across a so nasty and cryptic software error.

i had similar problems with another piece of software. the problem in my
case was that the system had no network configured and thus no local ip
adress (localhost / 127.0.0.1) either. i'm not sure if pgsql relies on this
ip being present.

on the other hand, you wrote you had 8.0.2 successfully up and running. did
you ever try to reinstall the pgsql version that successfully ran last on
your computer? - just to check if it has something to do with the installer
of the new version or if there is something different wrong with your
machine.

also, there are ways to manually install and setup pgsql without using the
provided installed - this might be some sort of last ressort for you if
everything else fails. of course this would be quite unpleasant as you have
to set up the service and initial databases manually as well.

good luck,
thomas

Illias,

try following this tutorial EXACLTY as presented...

http://www.geocities.com/operationsengineer1/

and see if you get a repeat of the error.

i agree, it is an odd and unexpected error. don't
kick the computer just yet. ;-)

if it makes you feel better, as a newb, i spent an
entire month getting my first install going. ;-)
