Обсуждение: Summer of Code Java?
JDBC & PL/java hackers, Wouldn't this be a good summer to attract a Summer of Code student to work on JDBC4, or PL/Java? Can any of you be a good mentor? ======================= Over the last 2 years, Google Summer of Code has been responsible for several new features of PostgreSQL: XML, ghost XID, phpPgAdmin upgrade, and more, as well as some new long-term contributors to the project. We want to have an equally good summer this year. So: we need PostgreSQL contributors to volunteer as mentors. As well as the core code, *any* project in the PostgreSQL "family" is eligible, including drivers, GUIs, documentation, replication, applications and tools. Don't be shy! Pass this along to sub-projects of PostgreSQL which might be eligible. Mentors must be patient, friendly, easy to stay in touch with, knowledgeable about their project areas, and able to commit to spending several hours a week helping their student(s) from May to August. GSOC is an unparalled opportunity for our project to recruit new contributors, and get students interested in databases. We have less than week to get everything together. So please respond soon! -- Josh Berkus PostgreSQL @ Sun San Francisco
Hello Josh, Though the open source project MyJSQLView now as the basic interface in place for postgreSQL, improvements could be made. If this project falls into the area of interest with the Java Summary of Code guidelines then I could provide mentoring. There are many areas of the project's development that will occur in Phase III which are more involved with data analysis rather than the PostgreSQL JDBC. These are definite areas that the team would welcome help/mentoring. Since the project is already set up at Sourceforge it would be very easy to get students involved and coding. I'm tired of finding FOSS projects that claim some cool feature thats important to me, then when I dig down into it, its a pointer to the original SoC project page, and the code is half baked and not integrated :-/

What are your thoughts on releasing under a bsd like license ? Dave
I withdraw my offer. danap. > On 29-Feb-08, at 3:52 PM, Josh Berkus wrote: > >> Dana, >> >>> These are definite areas that the team would welcome >>> help/mentoring. 1. I'm not going to post in a forum or list the commitment for others that contribute to the project. I thought it was clear from my post, I would mentor. 2. I'm not changing my project name. No smiley here. 3. I do not see the need to change license for existing code that has now been released to the public for almost a year and half, just to mentor students that wish to gain some valuable programming experience. There is no correlation here. Tom, I would of at least reviewed this, but 1. & 2 gave me indigestion, and now I have no interest. danap. >On Friday 29 February 2008 20:47, you wrote: > > >>> I withdraw my offer. >>> danap. >> >> > >Dana, > >Is this because you don't have anyone available to mentor on your team? > > -- Josh Berkus PostgreSQL @ Sun San Francisco >
