Обсуждение: Need help migrating old student projects off of Google Code
Folks, Sometime in the next 3 months, we need to migrate all of our old GSOC projects off of Google Code or their code will be lost when it shuts down. As the only person who has been an admin or assistant admin during the whole GSOC period, I have to push the button. But where I could use help is: * Figuring out all of the projects which have enough code to be worth migrating, but exist only on Google Code; * Remembering to get this done before the end of August. --Josh Berkus
I can help in migration to GitHub. We can create a new org (or, if acceptable, move them under github.com/postgres). Just an FYI, since Google-code is currently overwhelmed by migration requests, they are not accepting any moves right now; "come back later" as the message says. Like I said, I need to push the button for moving the actual projects because I'm the only one who has been an admin or assistant admin the whole time. However, pushing the "migrate" button is the easy part. The hard part is figuring out all of the projects which: a) have substantial code saved to google code; b) do not have that code already somewhere else (for example, in PostgreSQL, or already migrated to github on their own). -- Josh Berkus PostgreSQL Experts Inc. http://pgexperts.com

Is there a page where we could find the Google-Code repos for these projects? I did a cursory look here: http://www.postgresql.org/developer/summerofcode/ and could not find anything. Or is it a matter of going through each years Wiki page and pulling the repos out? > > -- Adrian Klaver adrian.klaver@aklaver.com

The hard part > is figuring out all of the projects which: > > a) have substantial code saved to google code; Well looking at: code.google.com/p/google-summer-of-code-YYYY-postgres/ for 2006-2014 I get either page not found(2006,2009,2012,2013,2014) or just a repo skeleton with no code(2007, 2008, 2010, 2011). Still working through the Wiki pages to see where the projects are actually hosted, though that information seems to be hidden in many cases. > > b) do not have that code already somewhere else (for example, in > PostgreSQL, or already migrated to github on their own). > > -- Adrian Klaver adrian.klaver@aklaver.com

Thanks! Note that we *do* have 3 months to do this. -- Josh Berkus PostgreSQL Experts Inc. http://pgexperts.com

Yea, it may take some time to ferret out where the projects actually are. I figured this was a 'as time permits' chore. I just tackled the low hanging fruit first. > > -- Adrian Klaver adrian.klaver@aklaver.com
