'k, a *very* quick scan of google, openjade uses the docbook for doing the PDF stuff? Is there a problem with the version that is in use? that VM has the following docbook packages installed: t1# ls -ld docbook-* drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Oct 15 14:50 docbook-1.2_1 drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Oct 15 14:50 docbook-241_2 drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Oct 15 14:50 docbook-3.0_2 drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Oct 15 14:50 docbook-3.1_2 drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Oct 15 14:50 docbook-4.0_2 drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Oct 15 14:50 docbook-4.1_2 maybe openjade is using the wrong version? Since, as far as I know, its *supposed* to work, if I can get a command to run to test with, I can hit the port maintainer to see if maybe I have something installed wrong? ---- Marc G. I have it running on a dual Xeon 2.4G machine and the build is still running after 2.5 hours. The strange thing is that the postgres.tex-pdf file is growing by about 1mb per hour, and the contents show that it is putting new information into the file that is unique (doesn't appear earlier in the file), so it is doing something, just very slowly. The most recent text I have in the file is: Constructs an argument that consists of an array of bytes which is from jdbc.sgml. I wonder if there is some non-linear behavior for very large builds. I just phoned Tom and he suggested that idea, and I was wondering that myself. -- Bruce Momjian | http://candle.pha.pa.us pgman@candle.pha.pa.us | (610) 359-1001 + If your life is a hard drive, | 13 Roberts Road + Christ can be your backup. | Newtown Square, Pennsylvania 19073

This is an error I got: openjade:postgres.sgml:5:55:W: cannot generate system identifier for public text "-//OASIS//DTD DocBook V4.2//EN" You don't have Docbook 4.2 installed or it isn't being found. That is attempting to build HEAD, not 7.4.X, which uses docbook 3.2, I think. What I don't understand is why the official developer build can build HTML. I just checked out REL 7.4.X and got: $ gmake postgres.pdf LC_ALL=C /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl/modular/bin/collateindex.pl -f -g -o bookindex.sgml -N { \ echo "<!entity version \"7.4.1\">"; \ echo "<!entity majorversion \"`expr 7.4.1 : '\([0-9][0-9]*\.[0-9][0-9]*\)'`\">"; \ } >version.sgml /usr/bin/perl ./mk_feature_tables.pl YES ../../../src/backend/catalog/sql_feature_packages.txt ../../../src/backend/catalog/sql_features.txt > features-supported.sgml /usr/bin/perl ./mk_feature_tables.pl NO ../../../src/backend/catalog/sql_feature_packages.txt ../../../src/backend/catalog/sql_features.txt > features-unsupported.sgml openjade -D . -c /usr/local/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl/modular/catalog -d stylesheet.dsl -t tex -V tex-backend -i output-print -V texpdf-output -o postgres.tex-pdf postgres.sgml and I see the errors you see. Those look like missing index entries generated by LaTeX. Usually you have to run latex 3 times to get all the index entries fixed, but rerunning the gmake doesn't seem to help. Basically, I think if you fixed the final error, the build would complete and you could re-run the gmake a few times more to remove the warnings. -- Bruce Momjian | http://candle.pha.pa.us pgman@candle.pha.pa.us | (610) 359-1001 + If your life is a hard drive, | 13 Roberts Road + Christ can be your backup. | Newtown Square, Pennsylvania 19073

'k, and the stupid question here, but ... should you *have* to run it 3 times, or do we have something wrong in the sgml? See sgml/Makefile: %.pdf: %.tex-pdf @rm -f $*.aux $*.log $*.out pdfjadetex $< pdfjadetex $< pdfjadetex $< Three builds are required because the index has to be built first, then once you know the number of pages, you can then regenerate the index with the new index size offset, then the last run I think is for the table-of-contents. -- Bruce Momjian | http://candle.pha.pa.us pgman@candle.pha.pa.us | (610) 359-1001 + If your life is a hard drive, | 13 Roberts Road + Christ can be your backup. | Newtown Square, Pennsylvania 19073

Right. I think Marc's build is getting much father than mine, and in fact I think I have the pdflatex changes so I will not fail the build. I just wonder what is different about his install.
