Обсуждение: Join advocacy team - polish PostgreSQL website
Hello, A few weeks ago I talked with Josh Berkus, and I told him, that I would like to join PG advocacy team, becouse I'm the owner of postgresql.pl domain and I would like to create polish PostgreSQL community. Well - a few words about me. I'm from Poland, I have my own company, which makes software for business - currently I'm working on a very big project for the automotive market - it's analysis software, which can produce statistics about the market. It will be also used as a e-commerce platform for car buyers - something like autos.msn.com or autobytel.com. The database is quite complex - there are about 300 tables, and every day there are about 10 000 new records (totaly). I could tell about this project much more, but I don't think that you are interested in this. So my question is, do I have a green light to run polish PostgreSQL website. Of course I will ask my friends (which are using PostgreSQL in Poland) to help me with this. For sure I will try to promote PostgreSQL in Poland and also to help users in using PG. I will be appreciated for any answer, Best regards, Marek Lewczuk Poland

To me it would make more sense to have one web site with multilingual content that a larger group can maintain rather than a whole bunch of web sites scattered around with only a single person with limited time behind each of them.

I know there is a Japanese one, and a Portuguese one too, I think. You can put local content on there, and link to our main site where appropriate. -- Bruce Momjian | http://candle.pha.pa.us pgman@candle.pha.pa.us | (610) 359-1001 + If your life is a hard drive, | 13 Roberts Road + Christ can be your backup. | Newtown Square, Pennsylvania 19073

Given that the site has been given some quasi-officaial deprecation from many of the advocacy/web leaders I'm not excited about having people translate it into even more languages if that work is going to be tossed overboard. But it did give us an avenue to do just what you're suggesting, and I don't see much progress being made on the Grand Unified Website... This is the *eventual* plan. However, the pgsql-www group has not made a lot of progress in the last month towards it; we still have some significant technical challenges to overcome. (Did'ja know that *no* OSS project, to date, has an efficient system for managing their website translations for more than 3 languages?) So, Marek, it might be a good idea for you to get started but set up postgresql.pl using the easiest method, since eventually we'll ask you to merge with pl.postgresql.org. Any further sugestions or questions ? Maybe my vision of PostgreSQL site will be a good start for changing postgresql.org - I have quite big experience in making web portals... Ok, thanks for permission and I will tell you, when there will be something to show. Marek
Marek, > Of course... Any further sugestions or questions ? We could sure use the help. Here's how to join the WWW group: 1) Send an e-mail to Dave Page ("Dave Page" <dpage@vale-housing.co.uk>) telling him how you'd like to help with Web and that you will be subscribing to the list. 2) Send a "subscribe pgsql-www" request to majordomo@postgresql.org -Josh -- Josh Berkus Aglio Database Solutions San Francisco

I have also one question: who is the designer of PostgreSQL logo, becouse it could be a good issue to re-make it, for more modern -- there are many variations of PG logo and it's realy not good for PG identity.
