It shows the position counting back from the end. If you want counting
from the front:

aklaver@test=>  select (length('Tomomasaaaaaaaaaaa')+ 1) - position('om'
in reverse('Tomomasaaaaaaaaaaa'));
  ?column?
----------
         4
