"postmaster: could not find the database system"

Hi,

For some weird reason, when I typed in "postmaster -D /usr/local/pgsql/data"
it came back at me saying "postmaster: could not find the database system"
?????? Why is that so????

Here's the whole thing:


$ export CYGWIN=server
$ /usr/sbin/cygserver &
[1] 792779
$ cygserver: Initialization complete. Waiting for requests.
initdb -D /usr/local/pgsql/data -W -E LATIN1
The files belonging to this database system will be owned by user "Daniel
Secomb
".
This user must also own the server process.

The database cluster will be initialized with locale C.

creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data... ok
creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/base... ok
creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/global... ok
creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/pg_xlog... ok
creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/pg_clog... ok
selecting default max_connections... Broken pipe
$ postmaster -D /usr/local/pgsql/data
postmaster: could not find the database system
Expected to find it in the directory "/usr/local/pgsql/data",
but could not open file "/usr/local/pgsql/data/global/pg_control": No such
file
or directory
$



Any ideas anyone?
