Hi,
What all options are shown when you search for pgAdmin in the search window while launching. Can you please provide a screen shot?
Probably , you are selecting v7 version in the search results causing this issue. You should look for the v8 version.

I have 7.8 installed and it is working well. When it starting notifying me that 8.1 was available I downloaded and installed, but it continues to show 7.8 in the Help > About menu. I’ve tried downloading and installing 3 times but it continues to say 7.8.
I have it installed on Windows 10. All I did was download the installation executable from pgadmin.org and run it without making any changes to the install options.
