That changed my error message to: PC20 $ postmaster -i & [1] 1232 PC20 $ IpcMemoryCreate: shmat(id=0) failed: error 0 [1]+ Exit 1 postmaster -i An upgrade to Cygwin 1.3.1 makes no difference. It has struck me that the one thing I have probably done differently is using /data for my PGDATA directory. I can't see how this could make any difference but it may be worth mentioning.
