BTW, a very quick look at my pg mailbox shows that message IDs are overwhelmingly 68 chars or less, including the surrounding <>. 68 seems to be a fixed width for gmail generated IDs - almost everybody else's message IDs are a lot smaller than 68. cheers andrew
