-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello I am writing to you to ask why the default name of the PID file used by postgreSQL has been changed between version 9.1.8 and 9.1.9 of the RPM files at yum.postgresql.org? i.e. The PID file between version 9.1.8 and 9.1.9 has changed from /var/run/postmaster-9.1 to /var/run/postgresql-9.1 . The same has happened with the 9.2 version. We have to think that this file can be used by software used around postgreSQL. In our case, we use it to check somethings via Puppet and CFengine, and some checks stopped to work when /var/run/postmaster-* 'disappeared'. I do not think a change like this can be justified between minor versions. In addition, the change was done between 9.1.8 and 9.1.9. but we did not find it out because we upgraded to 9.1.9 from a older version, it was not a new installation. It looks like the /etc/init.d/postgresql-* file does not get upgraded between minor upgrades. Why? We found out this change today because we have installed a new server directly with 9.1.10 and then we got the init.d file that uses the new PID name. Thanks in advance. regards, - -- Rafael Martinez Guerrero Center for Information Technology University of Oslo, Norway PGP Public Key: http://folk.uio.no/rafael/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.14 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAlJ3WtIACgkQBhuKQurGihQ7sACeNuQ2wzXsedDnQFzl0iqc1iR4 hkAAoIxYUJbIAA9q1z1NAr+VpLATTlBl =ZIxw -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
