I figured it out (I found section 9.9.3):
select age(hi_date at time zone 'GMT',lo_date at time zone 'GMT')+'1 min'

BTW: Why isn't timezone() function listed in table 9-26?  Shouldn't "at
time zone" be considered an operator?
