Hello Dave and list, Would it be a good idea to allow the user to select the version of pg_dump that pgAdmin uses for backups? I realise from previous threads on this list that pgAdmin is fairly clever about finding a pg_dump to use, but to give an example: at the moment, I have three versions of PostgreSQL on my development laptop (8.1.5, 8.2RC1 and - less than an hour old - 8.2), each with its own pg_dump, and a fourth pg_dump that came with pgAdmin III. Rather than try and remember the rules that pgAdmin uses to find a suitable pg_dump - and then have to jump through several hoops in order to accommodate these rules - it would be nice to have a dialog box or an "Options" entry which points it at a specific instance. This is something I've done writing desktop applications that use pg_dump for database backups. --Ray. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Raymond O'Donnell Director of Music, Galway Cathedral, Galway, Ireland rod@iol.ie ----------------------------------------------------------------------
