PostgreSQL array vs. JDBC vs. Hibernate

What is the better way to read and write PostgreSQL array columns with JDBC?

If I have this table:

CREATE TABLE test (
   test_id INTEGER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
   test_arr VARCHAR[]
);

How can I use PreparedStatements to write test_arr column? What is the
better way to read it?

And most important: how can I do this with Hibernate? I tryed to use a
single Strind column. It's possible to read but I cant write. I'm using
8.1.3.
