locale related problem with debian

tar -jxf postgresql-8.0.0beta4.tar.bz2
cd postgresql-8.0.0beta4
./configure
make check

combination, i received the following message.  postgres 7.4.3 makes
check fine (with a problem today caused by daylight saving)
