Hi Vamsi, This update is being forwarded to the pgsql-docs mailing list also. As the info is for an older version of PostgreSQL (version 7.0.3 is the latest released version), I'm not sure they'll include it in their present manuals. The information is useful for RedHat Linux users with the standard RPM's though! It will however, go onto the techdocs.postgresql.org site, as that site is for all versions of PostgreSQL, including the older ones. I'd be interested to hear if the same method works for RedHat 7.0 (it has version 7.0.2 of PostgreSQL with it), if you decide to install that version later on, or if you know someone that has. Thanks heaps for your information. It's good to see people contributing to the knowledge of the community as a whole. :-) Regards and best wishes, Justin Clift -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Reg. Thank you for considering my suggestion, I needed to add some extra information, so I am sending this mail. I made a serious mistake, I mentioned using the 'Install' option under the Redhat Linux 6.2, well this is not 'Install' but 'setup' under the Rehat Linux command prompt, please follow these steps: 1. Go to Redhat Linux 6.x command prompt and type 'setup'. 2. Go to the 'System services' section and you will be prompted with a screenful of services, browse to the postgreSQL service section and enable it ( by pressing spacebar). 3. Restart the system and login as root. 4. start 'Linuxconf' (under X-mode, or normal command prompt) and go to the users section. 5. Go to the postgreSQl user account ( which is automatically created) and change the password. Please note: You cannot use the postgreSQL server in the root mode, any administration should be done in the postgreSQL user mode. I currently use the PostgreSQL server 6 (postgreSQL-server-6.5.3-6) which is distributed under the Redhat Linux 6.2. The above procedure I have mentioned will be working ( It Works!!) on any RedHat Linux 6.x system. Please let me know if I have left any gaps, I will be ready to answer them. Thank you once again................................ vamsi
