You're right, we're still getting # pg_ctl failed; logfile: LOG: could not bind IPv4 socket: Permission denied HINT: Is another postmaster already running on port 60208? If not, wait a few seconds and retry. WARNING: could not create listen socket for "127.0.0.1" FATAL: could not create any TCP/IP sockets LOG: database system is shut down Bail out! pg_ctl failed So the connect() test is inadequate. Let's try bind() with SO_REUSEADDR and see whether that makes things better or worse. regards, tom lane
