Ah, I see the problem :-)  The first initdb does this:

    The files belonging to this database system will be owned by user "alvherre".
    This user must also own the server process.

    The database cluster will be initialized with this locale configuration:
      locale provider:   builtin
      default collation: C.UTF-8
      LC_COLLATE:  C
      LC_CTYPE:    C
      LC_MESSAGES: C
      LC_MONETARY: es_CL.UTF-8
      LC_NUMERIC:  es_CL.UTF-8
      LC_TIME:     es_CL.UTF-8
    The default text search configuration will be set to "english".

    Data page checksums are enabled.

which for some reason used my environment setting for LC_MONETARY.
