If you were backing the nameserver with Postgres, this would work. To be clear, this is _not_ the case with any product I've ever built, but it is a design I have seen deployed. That design was supposed to be on top of Oracle. There were well over 50 slaves. I don't really believe they had that many Oracle-using slaves, though.
