This works in 8.0.4, although it gives even more decoration:

test=> SELECT id, textin(record_out(row(foo), tableoid)) FROM foo;
 id |                                textin
----+-----------------------------------------------------------------------

test=> SELECT id, md5(textin(record_out(row(foo), tableoid))) FROM foo;
