It seems that with the latest releases of both, NetBSD outperforms FreeBSD in at least one benchmark. http://www.feyrer.de/NetBSD/gmcgarry/ The benchmarks were run on a single processor but you can always run the benchmark on whatever hardware you select - assuming that it runs both.
