== PostgreSQL Weekly News - December 28th 2004 ==

    The core group is preparing to release an RC3 relatively soon, with only a
couple of issues still being looked at. This should be the last RC before
final release, but as always it will depend on what, if any, issues turn up.

    Given the combination of late release cycle and holiday schedule, the list
of fixes this week is really tiny. An issue with start up when clog was
stopped exactly on a page boundary was fixed. A memory leak that had been
introduced into VACUUM FULL when dealing with expressional or predicate
indexes was fixed. File inclusion in pg_hba.conf was fixed to work as
documented while also allowing for absolute paths in @file constructs.
Finally, libpq will now default to "localhost" connections on machines that
do not support Unix-domain sockets rather than failing.

    Of course the other big news from last week was the lunch of the new
PostgreSQL website. Long in the making, the efforts have paid off nicely with
a much improved interface and layout for the PostgreSQL web presence. Kudos
to everyone who helped make it happen.
