Tomcat Cannot load JDBC driver class "null"

I had same suffering for days. In the end,I found the only solution worked was posted here:

--- In short, you have to use a ResourceLink, instead of referencing resource directly.
Note:
  There's another related bug in Apache Bugzilla which is that you can not use semicolons ";" in the validationQuery,
whichis contradictory to the documentation.
