postgres start failed

Hello,
    i can't start my postgres server!!
I've a Mandrake 9.0 and i installed postgres width Mandrake DrakConf...
So i hope the installation was fine because i told me so...

Then i became root and give the command: "/etc/init.d/postgres start"
It responds: "Starting postgres service:  [FAILED]".


WHY!!??
What can i do to understand where is the problem?
Please help me...
