I need a clarification.  In the non-assignment case, does:
WHERE numericcol = numericcol * 3.14159

evaluate "numericcol * 3.14159" as a numeric?

And does:
WHERE 5.55 = numericcol * 3.14159

evaluate "numericcol * 3.14159" as a numeric too?
