OK, if you think it should be kept for backward compatibility, then go ahead and keep it, but I see little value in adding it to identifiers unless it is part of an Oracle-compatibility module or at least an Oracle-compatibility #define. How many user-defined $ operators do you think are out there? I doubt very many.
