Just to give a quick update .. It seems like jcp is not the bad guy here, but rather maven-compiler-plugin of version 3.5 (it all works fine with maven-compiler-plugin v3.3). Let's wait for the bug [1] resolution (whatever it will be), after that we can move to submitting PRs¹ -- so if there is anything I can help with before that, please ping me.
