I usually use xterm for viewing utf-8. Try the following for example... LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 xterm -u8 -fn -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-18-120-100-100-c-90-iso10646-1 -fw -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-18-120-100-100-c-180-iso10646-1 Tom.
