But I do understand that top quality docs require specific skills
and resources which it is perhaps unreasonable to expect from an
open source project. It will probably take a commercial effort from
GreatBridge or a book to improve things. GreatBridge have made a
start. I hope they continue to test and develop their docs, and
don't regard the job as done...

We definitely plan to continue testing and developing our
documentation. Our job is far from done. . . . We've known for some
time of the demand for more extensive developer documentation. It
also makes sense that there would be a need for newbie-friendly
docs. We are and will remain sensitive to these issues--and others
as they develop.
Of course, our hats go off to the PostgreSQL on-line documentation
community. The job the community is doing is nothing short of
fantastic.
We also have plans in place to begin offering different levels of
hands-on PostgreSQL training, including both traditional classroom
and distance learning formats. This is another area in which Great
Bridge wants to continue its contribution to the user community.
